My IP Status
Your IP address, location and provider are visible to every site you visit
What is an IP?
What your IP address and connection reveal
Your IP address is like your digital home address. Every website you visit can see it and learn your approximate location, internet provider, and more.
Websites can collect even more information about you
Beyond your IP address, websites can detect your browser, operating system, screen resolution, language settings, and more through browser fingerprinting.
Can you hide your location by changing your IP address?
Yes, by using a VPN. When you connect to a VPN server, websites see the server's IP address instead of yours. This hides your real location and protects your privacy.
What types of IP addresses exist?
IPv4 and IPv6
IPv4 addresses use a 32-bit format (e.g., 192.168.1.1) while IPv6 uses 128-bit (e.g., 2001:0db8::1). IPv6 was created to handle the growing number of internet-connected devices.
Public IP address
Your public IP address is assigned by your internet provider and is visible to websites. It can reveal your approximate geographic location.
Dynamic IP address
Most home internet connections use dynamic IP addresses that change periodically. Your provider assigns a new IP each time you reconnect.
Private IP address
Private IP addresses are used within your local network (e.g., 192.168.x.x). They are not visible on the internet.
