How to download Sota VPN on a PC or laptop
On a computer, Sota VPN runs as the Sota Connect app. A desktop and a laptop get the same app; what differs is the operating system, so there are three separate sets of steps below: Windows, macOS and Linux. Pick yours in the contents. Download the app only from official links: this site, the App Store or the sotavpn GitHub mirror. Builds from other sites may have been tampered with.

What you need
- A computer running Windows, macOS or Linux. Laptop or desktop makes no difference to the app.
- An access key from your dashboard. If you don't have one yet, start with the guide "Sota VPN access key": it also covers buying the subscription.
- An active subscription. Without one, the key won't connect to the servers. New users get a trial: 7 days for 1.49€, details in the guide "How to pay for Sota VPN".
Windows
Sota Connect installs like any other Windows program. If you'd like to know your way around the app first, there is a separate tour of Sota Connect for Windows.
- Open the Sota Connect for Windows page and click "Download app". The sota-connect-windows-x64-setup.exe file downloads. If the link doesn't open, the same page has a "Mirror / GitHub" button with the same file.
- Run the downloaded file and go through the installer: accept the default settings and wait for it to finish. Then open Sota Connect from the Start menu.
- On first launch the app asks for your access key. Copy it from your dashboard, paste it into the field and click "Confirm".
- Click the server bar at the top and pick a country from the list, or leave "Best server": the app picks the fastest one for you.
- Click the big power button in the middle of the screen. When "Connected" appears under it, the VPN is on.
macOS
On a Mac the app comes from the App Store, so you need an Apple ID. The app itself is free; only the subscription is paid.
- Open the Sota Connect for macOS page and click "Download app": the Sota Connect listing opens in the App Store. You can also just search for Sota Connect in the App Store on your Mac.
- Click the download button and confirm the install with your Apple ID password or Touch ID. Wait for the App Store to finish installing.
- Open Sota Connect from the Applications folder or Launchpad. Paste the access key from your dashboard into the field and click "Confirm".
- Click the server bar at the top and pick a country from the list, or leave "Best server".
- Click the big power button in the middle of the screen. The first time you connect, macOS asks whether to allow Sota Connect to add VPN configurations. Click "Allow"; without it the connection won't come up. When "Connected" appears under the button, the VPN is on.
Linux
There are three Linux packages for the different distribution families. Pick yours; the remaining steps are the same.
- On the Sota Connect for Linux page, download the package for your system: .deb for Debian, Ubuntu and Linux Mint, .rpm for Fedora and RHEL, .pkg.tar.zst for Arch and Manjaro. On an ARM device such as a Raspberry Pi, switch the architecture to ARM64 on the same page.
- Install the package. The easiest way is to double-click the downloaded file: the software installer opens, confirm the install with your password. From the terminal:
sudo apt install ./sota-connect-linux-x64.debon Debian and Ubuntu, sudo dnf install ./sota-connect-linux-x64.rpmon Fedora, sudo pacman -U sota-connect-linux-x64.pkg.tar.zston Arch. - Launch Sota Connect from the applications menu. Paste the access key from your dashboard into the field and click "Confirm".
- Click the server bar at the top and pick a country from the list, or leave "Best server".
- Click the big power button in the middle of the screen. When "Connected" appears under it, the VPN is on.
Good to know
- A laptop and a desktop are the same to the app: any computer with a current Windows, macOS or a popular Linux version will do.
- One access key works on every device of your subscription, up to 10 at the same time. Your phone and computer connect with the same key.
- If the links on this site don't open, the current address and the official mirrors are collected in the guide "Official Sota VPN website".
